There are essentially two types of plumbing emergencies.
- Flooding caused by uncontrolled water flow.
- Blocked drains causing flooding.
The big thing is DO NOT PANIC.
Both of these emergencies can generally be halted without the expense of an emergency outcall fee.
A plumber on an emergency outcall will generally stop the problem from continuing, ascertain the work required and then return the next day with the required materials to complete the repairs.
Most of the time you can achieve the same result without the expensive call out fee.
For blocked drains
Step 1: Ensure that no further flow occurs through the drain and then clean up the initial mess to minimise the damage done.

For uncontrolled water flow
Step 1: Turn off the water supply to the house (Tap is located outside).
Step 2: Clean up as much of the flooding as you can to minimise the damage.
